Some more unanswered questions

My last post was on the death penalty and I realized that I ended up on the wrong side of the spectrum I wanted to discuss. However the comments from the readers opened my perspective and I realized that though not intended to speak for the family of the accused they also leave behind at times a destitute legacy.

The comments from my readers made me think further and wonder if justice is indeed retribution to the family of the victims. Those accused of violent crime have broken families, orphaned children, widowed brides and whether they face the gallows or not, the future sufferings of the families of the victims will remain unmitigated.

Of what use is this sentence to an orphaned child? Will justice care for him / her? Those who vehemently support for the lives of the accused can spend some time to mitigate the suffering of the victims. An eye for an eye does not work anymore but it makes you wonder if this is the reason for crime to go about unchecked. Is justice really justice for the victim if it will not ensure any compensation for the loss suffered?

I am disturbed by this because I have given a few claim payments to the nominees of deceased policy holders and usually this payment will be the only recourse they had and even this was available because some kind soul sold this insurance when they did not perceive the need.
 
Death throws up so many challenges for those still living...

This was a crude translation of a proverb that comedian Karunas (as pointed out by Chriz ) made famous in one movie. The Tamil original runs thus, “Kazhutha ketta, kutti suvaru” so you have the translation. I heard that line somewhere and I wondered especially having heard the translation as to what could have been the origin of the proverb. Any ideas? PS: I Googled it and did find something.

Silly Hindians, not knowing & not using are 2 different things. You don't know that many here know Hindi, you only know that we choose not to use Hindi, because it's our choice. Frankly it’s none of your business, what we wear or eat or speak. There is a lot of Hindi everywhere in Tamilnadu and often many are forced to use Hindi to communicate to the staff. If you observe closely there are many non native workers in Tamilnadu in the service industry. While many other states may have a welcoming attitude to people from other states who take up local jobs Tamilnadu has always welcomed them. Chennai or Madras has always been vaazha vaikkum Chennai, meaning it gives room for people to earn their bread in their chosen field. We still have Chinese dentists (the last few sadly) who don’t speak Mandarin here but Tamil to their patients in their clinics near Flower bazaar, Chennai. Battle of the movies - Annaathe Vs Jailer

  I watched Jailer yesterday and strangely my mind went back to Annaathe and I found that there are not too many dissimilarities in the two. For starters both are helmed by super star fan boys and who brought their adulation to the silver screen with varying levels of success. Secondly both movies can be clearly separated into two halves and both halves were significantly different. There are also few others I picked up so listing below my score card for the same.   1.       Title Both movies revolve around their titles and Annaathe was easier to understand, a local big man is called such and it is prevalent throughout the movie. In Jailer it comes to the fore only in a small and actually weak flash back. Annaathe – 1 Jailer – 0   2.      Family relationship bond Both movies were built on a family connect.
